BI host aims for the enterprise

ON MONDAY, BELLEVUE, Wash.-based Digimine will announce a service aimed to push its hosted data mining and data warehousing services into the enterprise.

Although the somewhat nascent market, which includes SAS Institute, IBM, and Oracle, has been slow to take off, Digimine has been growing since its March, 2000 inception.

The new offering, dubbed Enterprise Analytic Service, is a beefier version of the BI (business intelligence) service that Digimine currently offers, designed to enable enterprises to manage and analyze large amounts of data at a relatively low price compared to implementing a data warehouse and data mining tools in-house.

Companies that subscribe to Enterprise Analytic Services also get Campaign Response Analytics and the Data Slurper, a software tool for automated data transfer to the Digimine data center.

“We become an extension of the customer’s technology,” said John Samuel, director of product planning and business development at Digimine.

Last week, Digimine unveiled a service particularly for wireless carriers to analyze their data.

Analysts said that, while the business model of hosted BI is a perfect fit for midsize businesses, its uptake has been slow in the enterprise.

A report by market research firm IDC said that only 5 percent of large companies are subscribing to an ASP (application service provider) for data warehousing, but interest is growing.
