The KDD 2018 conference is being held in London from August 19 – 23, 2018 – (please see http://www.kdd.org/kdd2018/ ) and August is the ideal time of year to visit this amazing city. The Invited panel for the Applied Data Science Track will take place on August 22nd and is scheduled at 1:30-3:30PM at the ICC Capital Suite Room 8+11 (Level 3) of the conference venue: The ExCeL – the international exhibition and conference centre (http://www.kdd.org/kdd2018/venue ) – the largest conference center in London.
Despite its size, we have managed to keep KDD as one of the most academically selective conferences in the field. However, we are always keen to have strong applications and material very attractive to practitioners and not just academic researchers — so there is an emphasis on applications papers in the Applied Data Science Track. The ADS track is a thoroughly peer-reviewed track and the papers are measured against a very high standard with at least 3 peer reviews etc. The Invited Talks Track does not involve publishing papers and is designed to give a forum for high impact works to be presented where the presenters would not necessarily be expected to take the time or may not have the inclination to submit a paper etc. Historically the Invited Talks Track has attracted a huge audience covering a very healthy mix of practitioners. We work carefully with the presenters to screen the material from any marketing-oriented matter as what we want is a forum where the “wisdom and learnings of experience” that come from what works and what doesn’t to come through and inform/educate our audience. It is a great forum to challenge researchers as well to address pragmatic but fundamental high impact problems. Our panel is the main panel in the Invited Talks part of the ADS Track.
