twofour54 will be participating in Dubai International Film Festival 2013

Investment vehicle twofour54 will be attending the 2013 Dubai International Film Festival, which will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President & Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

The film festival, which serves as a platform for Arab filmmakers and talent at the international level, will take place from 6 to 14 December. twofour54’s creative lab is already involved in ten films that will be screened during the festival, including short films and documentaries.

The winners at ArabNet Startup Demo and Ideathon Competition

The ArabNet conference was held on the 3rd and 4th of December in Riyadh. Startups pitched their ideas during the Startup Demo day and at the end of the conference, three winners were announced.

Feelit, a social network mobile app based on feelings, won the first place; Presella, the online ticketing app, won the second prize; MesCadeaux won third place.

Bayt.com launched People Search

Leading job portal Bayt.com rolled out a new product called People Search.

Using this new service, users will be able to search for information about other users on the platform. The service comes in two variations: the basic one is free and the premium one is available for a small fee and allow users to add search filters.

Oasis500 expands regionally and hires a new CEO

As part of its new strategy to expand regionally, tech­focused incubator Oasis500 has appointed Yousef Hamidaddin as Chief Executive Officer.

The new strategy includes “partnerships with initiatives, private sector institutions and funds that support entrepreneurship in the Arab region,” Oasis500 announced, “and also includes broadening Oasis500 mentors and investors networks.” As for the new CEO, Hamidaddin previously worked as the CEO of Axiom MENA for Middle East, North Africa and the Muslim World.

Usama Fayyad, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Oasis 500, expressed his belief in Hamidaddin’s capabilities to run the incubator and help it expand across the Arab region in support of tech companies.

New USAID project to strengthen education systems in South Sudan

Palestinian SMS platform Souktel is joining a new educational project that USAID to launch a new project called Room to Learn for six countries: Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Haiti, Nigeria, Pakistan, and South Sudan.

Souktel will provide the mobile technology for the project, which will target disadvantaged youth, promoting literacy and gender equality. The goal of this program is to “improve access to education for 15 million learners in crisis [zones],” says USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah.

“By supporting distance education projects and gender­based violence prevention campaigns, we’ve worked with marginalized communities across the country­­and we’ve rolled out a wide range of mobile tools for different settings,” says Souktel’s US Director of Business Development, Maggie McDonough. “We’re excited to build on this experience with ‘Room to Learn.”

Nabbesh introduces payment services

After a recent study conducted by Nabbesh revealed that 30% of freelancers had a client who never paid them, the online skills marketplace announced the launch of a new payment service to “provide our community of nearly 30,000 freelancers all the tools they need to work your way — and get paid!”

With the new service, clients can send a work proposal, negotiate fees, and make a deposit or submit an invoice securely. As explained on their blog post, freelancers can actually see the money transferred to their Nabbesh account before starting to work on the project. Payment can be submitted via credit card or transfer services like Western Union.

PayFort launches in Saudi Arabia

At Arabnet Riyadh today, PayFort, one of the newest regional payment solutions, announced that it is launching in Saudi Arabia, “where internet penetration has crossed the 12 million user mark,” says Managing Director Omar Soudodi.

Utech launches Bidaya

In another announcement at ArabNet Riyadh today, Unlimited Thinking Entrepreneurship Center (Utec) announced the launch of Bedaya, an incubation program for startups.

The 10­week program will provide entrepreneurs with seed funding, mentorship, an office space, registering services as well as others. Interested entrepreneurs can apply by submitting their application here.

iMENA Holdings announces $25 million in investments to date

At Arabnet Riyadh today, iMENA Holdings announced a recap of its investments to date and an update on its investment outlook.

The investor and operator, which is headquartered in Dubai, with offices in Amman and Riyadh, has invested over $25 million in total to date, in five companies: OpenSooq.com, an Arabic classifieds site, ReserveOut, a restaurant reservation service, SellAnyCar.com, an e­commerce platform for cars, and Rocket Internet companies Hellofood, an online food ordering service, and EasyTaxi, a mobile app for taxi ordering.

With $8 million invested in HelloFood, and $7 million in EasyTaxi, as part of a partnership with Rocket Internet, this announcement reveals that iMENA has invested a total of over $10 million in the other three companies.

The press release also give an update on each company, noting that:

  • OpenSooq’s mobile apps have hit number 1 in terms of downloads in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Jordan.
  • ReserveOut has partnered with more than 150 restaurants and seated over one million diners its launch in late 2012.
  • SellAnyCar.com has tabulated the valuation of 100,000 online vehicles over the past 3 months
  • Hellofood has partnered with over 300 online vendors in Saudi Arabia and launched in Jordan.
  • EasyTaxi is now in test mode in Saudi Arabia

Strangely absent was Desado, a Dubai­based home goods e­commerce site that announced investment from iMENA in June.

Both Khaldoon Tabaza,iMENA’s founder and managing director, and Adey Salamin, its founder and CEO, stressed that the company is looking to invest further in 2014, with a focus on the Saudi Arabian market, mobile services companies and those with a local advantage.

Ananasa launches a bargain bu tton to allow users negotiate prices

E­commerce site Ananasa recently added a new feature to its platform that allows shoppers to “negotiate prices with sellers through a simple click of a button,” according to the press release.

Ananasa, which was founded by sisters Zaina and Rania Kanaan in 2011, today features over 3000 items from over 400 unique sellers around the Middle East and North Africa. With the new bargain button, it “provides sellers with insights on market value for their creations, while allowing the buyers to express a reasonable price that they would be willing to pay,” says Zaina.

LinkedIn reaches 10 million professionals in the Middle East

In 2012, when LinkedIn opened an office in the Middle East and North Africa, it had 5 million members from the Arab world, which quickly doubled to 9 million earlier this year.

This month, the professional social network has reached 10 million professionals across the Middle East, more than the UAE population, thanks in part to major members including Saudi Aramco, Emirates, King Fahed University of Petrolum and Minerals, American University of Sharjah, American University of Beirut and others.

مهارات شابة خلال المهرجان السينمائي الدولي في دبي لعام 2013

ستشارك الشركة الاستثمارية “توفور54 “twofour54 في مهرجان دبي السينمائي الدولي في دبي، الذي سينعقد تحت رعاية سمّو الشيخ محمد بن راشد المكتوم، نائب رئيس الإمارات ورئيس الوزراء وحاكم دبي.

المهرجان السينمائي، الذي يعدّ منصة لصانعي الأفلام العرب والمواهب الدولية، سينعقد من 6 إلى 14 كانون الأول/ ديسمبر. ومختبر الإبداع لدى “توفور54 “lab creative قد ساهم في إنتاج 10 أفلام سيتم عرضها خلال المهرجان، منها أفلام قصيرة ووثائقية.

وتقول نورا الكعبي، وهي الرئيسة التنفيذية لـ “توفور54” :”إّن توفور54 تفتخر بالمواهب العربية الشابة التي ستشارك في المهرجان السينمائي الدولي وتعرض أفلامها”، وتتابع، “إن حضورنا المتزايد هذا العام في المهرجان هو دليل على أّن طاقات المواهب لدينا والتزامها مستمرة لإنتاج أفلام ومحتوى عالي النوعية. من المتوقع أن يكون المهرجان السينمائي الدولي ملتقى هام لكافة محبي الأفلام وأحث كّل شخص على الاستمتاع بالأفلام الرائعة التي ستعرض هذا العام”.

الشركات الفائزة خلال مسابقة عرض الشركات في قمة عرب نت في الرياض

انعقدت قمة “عرب نت” يومي 3 و4 كانون الأول/ ديسمبر في الرياض. عرضت الشركات الناشئة أفكارها خلال يوم عروض الأفكار وفي نهاية المؤتمر، تم الإعلان عن أسماء الشركات الفائزة الثلاثة:

فيل إيت” Feelit وهي شبكة اجتماعية تعتمد على المشاعر، فاز بالمرتبة الأولى، “بريسيلا” Presella ،تطبيق لحجز تذاكر للحفلات على الإنترنت، فاز بالمرتبة الثانية، و”مي كادو” MesCadeaux كان له المرتبة الثالثة.

موقع “بيت.كوم” يطلق خدمة البحث عن الناس

أطلق موقع الوظائف “بيت.كوم” منتًجا جديدًا اسمه “البحث عن الناس” Search People.

عبر استخدام الخدمة الجديدة، يستطيع المستخدمون البحث عن معلومات حول مستخدمين آخرين على المنصة. وتأتي الخدمة مجانية ام مدفوعة، فالأخيرة تسمح للمستخدم ومقابل مبلغ صغير بإجراء بحث أكثر تخصًصا.

أويسس500 تتوّسع إقليميا وتعيّن رئيًسا تنفيذيا

كجزء من استراتيجيتها للتوسع إقليميا، قامت حاضنة الأعمال التقنية “أويسس500 “بتعيين يوسف حميدالدين كرئيس تنفيذي لحاضنة الأعمال.

تشمل الاستراتيجية الجديدة “شراكات مع “مبادرات ومؤسسات مجتمع مدني وصناديق داعمة لريادة الأعمال في المنطقة العربية، وتوسيع شبكة المرشدين المساندين لعمليات الصندوق في المنطقة العربية”، كما أعلن موقع “أويسس500 ،”إضافة إلى” تسهيل وصول الشركات الناشئة التابعة إلى استثمارات جديدة بهدف التطور والنمو، أو جذب الاستثمارات العربية والأجنبية للسوق الأردنية”. وقد كان حميدالدين الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة اكسيوم في الشرق الأوسط، شمال إفريقيا والعالم الإسلامي.

عبّر أسامة فياض، وهو رئيس مجلس إدارة “أويسس500 ،”بأّن “مجلس إدارة الصندوق يؤمن بقدرات حميدالدين وبأنه سيساعد في نقل وتطوير عمليات الصندوق الذي بدا يتجه ويضع بصمات عربية وعالمية في مجال تأهيل وتدريب وجذب الاستثمارات للشركات الريادية العاملة في تقنية المعلومات وصناعة الانترنت”.

الوكالة الأميركية للتنمية الدولية تطلق برنامًجا تعليميا في جنوب السودان

أطلقت الوكالة الأميركية للتنمية الدولية مشروًعا جديدًا اسمه Learn to Room) أي فسحة للتعلّم) في ستة بلدان وهي: أفغانستان، جمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية، هايتي، نيحيريا، باكستان وجنوب السودان.

ستنضّم منصة الرسائل النصية الفلسطينية “سوق تل” كمزود لتكنولوجيا المحمول. سيمتد البرنامج على خمس سنوات ويستهدف الشباب الأقّل حظوة، ويركز على معرفة القراءة والكتابة والمساواة بين الجنسين. استنادًا إلى رجيف شه، مدير الوكالة، فإّن الهدف من البرنامج هو “تحسين النفاذ إلى التعليم لـ 15 مليون متعلّم في المحنة. وما زال ينقص 61 مليون ولد النفاذ إلى التعليم. يجب أن نعطيهم فسحة للتعلّم”.

وتضيف ماجي ماكدونو، مديرة تطوير الأعمال في الولايات المتحدة في “سوق تل”، إنّه “من خلال دعم مشاريع تعليمية عن بعد وحملات وقائية ضد العنف، نعمل مع مجتمعات مهمشة حول البلد، وقد أطلقنا مجموعة واسعة من ادوات المحمول لاستخدامات متعددة”، وتتابع “يسعدنا إكمال هذه التجرية من خلال Learn to Room.”

موقع “نبّش” يضيف خدمة دفع عبر المنصة

بعد أن كشفت دراسة لموقع “نبّش” أّن 30 %من العاملين بدوام حّر على “نبّش” لم يحصلوا على المال لقاء عملهم لزبون معين، أعلن سوق المهارات الإلكتروني عن إطلاق خدمة دفع على الإنترنت، “لنؤمن لمجتمع الذي يضم حوالي 30 ألف عامل بدوام حّر كافة الأدوات التي يحتاجون إليها للعمل والحصول على المال!”، كما ذكر على مدونة الموقع.

بفضل الخدمة الجديدة، بإمكان الزبائن إرسال وصف عمل العمل، مناقشته مع العامل بدوام حّر، الموافقة عليه أو إيداع المبلغ بطريقة آمنة. وكما ذكر على المدونة، يستطيع الموظفون رؤية المال الذي تّم إيداعه قبل البدء بالعمل على مشروع حتى. ويتم الدفع إما عبر بطاقة ائتمان أو عبر تحويل مصرفي من “وسترن يونيون” على سبيل المثال.

بوابة “بيفورت” تنطلق في السعودية

تستمّر بوابة الدفع الإقليمية الجديدة “بيفورت” بالتوسع، وقد أعلنعمر السدودي، مديرها العام، اليوم خلال عرب نت عن إطلاق الخدمة في السعودية.

استنادًا إلى سدودي، في سوق حيث “معدل استخدام الإنترنت يناهز الـ 12 مليون مستنخدم، باتت الحاجة إلى بوابة دفع آمنة ضرورية أكثر فأكثر”.يكمل حديثه خلال عرب نت قائلاً: ” وفيما يعتمد مستخدمو المنطقة خيارات الدفع الإلكترونية بشكل متنامي للتسوق والخدمات، يجب التركيز أكثر على تسهيلات الدفع التي تزيد من المبيعات بشكل عام وتخفّف الخسارة الناتجة عن المخاطروالاحتيال”.

إطلاق برنامج “بداية” لتطوير الأعمال

في إعلان آخر لعرب نت الرياض اليوم، قامت شركة الفكر اللامحدود لريادة الأعمال (UTEC (بإطلاق برنامج “بداية” لتطوير الاعمال.

ويوفر برنامج بداية الذي يمتدّ على عشرة أسابيع الاستثمار التأسيسي، التدريب و الإرشاد، مساحة عمل، ومساعدة في تسجيل الشركات، بالإضافة الى الخدمات الداعمة الاخرى. بإمكان الشركات المهتمة تقديم طلب هنا.

آي مينا القابضة تعلن عن استثمارات بقيمة 25 مليون دولار

خلال قمة “عرب نت” اليوم، قدّمت “آي مينا القابضة” Holdings Imena خلاصة عن استثماراتها حتى الآن وتحديثًا عن وضع استثماراتها بشكل عام.

شركة الاستثمار والمشغلة هذه، التي تتخذ دبي مقرا رئيسيا لها مع مكاتب لها فيَعمان والرياض، استثمرت بأكثر من 25 مليون دولار أميركي في خمس شركات وهي: السوق المفتوح، موقع إعلانات مبوبة بالعربية، “ريزورف أوت” ReserveOut وهي خدمة حجز مطاعم، “بيع أي سيارة“، منصة تجارة إلكترونية للسيارات، وشركات تابعة لـ “روكيت إنترنت” Internet Rocket وهي “هيلو فود” Hellofood ،خدمة طلب طعام عبر الإنترنت، و”إيزي تاكسي” EasyTaxi وهو تطبيق على المحمول لطلب سيارة أجرة.

وقد استثمرت “آي مينا” بمبلغ 8 ملايين دولار أميركي في “هيلو فود” و7 ملايين دولار أميركي في “إيزي تاكسي”، كجزء من شراكتها مع “روكيت إنترنت”، ويظهر هذا الإعلان أّن “آي مينا” استثمرت بما يفوق 10 ملايين دولار أميركي في الشركات الثلاثة الأخرى. وقد ذكر البيان الصحفي أيًضا تحديثًا عن كّل شركة، ذاكًرا ما يلي:

  • .تطبيقات “السوق المفتوح” للمحمول قد وصلت إلى المرتبة الأولى من حيث التنزيلات في السعودية، الكويت والأردن
  • .أبرم “ريزورف أوت” شراكة مع أكثر من 150 مطعم وخدم أكثر من 150 مرتاد مطاعم منذ انطلاقه في أواخر عام 2012
  • .أدرج موقع “بيع أي سيارة” 100 ألف سيارة خلال الأشهر الثلاثة الماضية
  • .أبرم “هيلو فود” شراكة مع أكثر من 300 بائع على الإنترنت في السعودية وانطلق في الأردن
  • .إيزي تاكسي” في نسخته التجريبية في السعودية”

غاب عن الساحة “ديزادو“، وهو موقع تجارة إلكترونية للسلع المنزلية، وقد أعلن عن تلقيه استثماًرا من “آي مينا” في حزيران/ يونيو.

وقد شدّد كّل من خلدون طبازة، مؤّسس “ىي مينا” وممديرها العام، وعدي سلامين، مؤسسها ورئيسها التنفيذي، على أّن الشركة تسعى إلى الاستثمار عام 2014 في شركات أخرى بعد، مع تركيز على السعودية، وشركات خدمات المحمول وتلك المحلية.

موقع تجارة إلكترونية يسمح للشارين بالمساومة على الأسعار

أضاف موقع التجارة الإلكترونية “أناناسة” Ananasa مؤخًرا ميزة جديدة إلى منصته، تسمح للمتسوقين بالمساومة على الأسعار معالبائعين من خلال نقرة زّر واحدة، استنادًا إلى البيان الصحفي.

تأسس موقع “أناناسة” عام 2011 على يد الأختين زينا ورانيا كنعان، وهو يدرج أكثر من 3000 منتج من أكثر من 400 بائع فريد حول الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا، كما ذكر البيان أيًضا. ومن خلال زر المساومة هذا، سيستطيع البائعون معرفة أسعار السوق الملائمة وتقييم أسعارهم، ويستطيع البائعون تحديد السعر الذي يناسبهم والذي هم مستعدون إلى دفعه، بحسب ما قالته المؤسسة الشريكة زينة.

“لينكد إين” يصل إلى 10 ملايين مهني في الشرق الأوسط

عام 2012 ،افتتح “لينكد إين” مكتبًا له في الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا وكان له 5 ملايين عضو عندها، استنادًا إلى مدونة الموقع وتضاعف هذا الرقم ليصل إلى 9 ملايين مستخدم في وقت سابق هذا العام.

هذا الشهر، استطاعت الشبكة الاجتماعية للمهنيين جذب 10 ملايين مهني في الشرق الأوسط، وهذا عدد يتخطى عدد سكان الإمارات. ومن بين الأعضاء البارزين على المنصة نذكر “أرامكو” السعودية، الإمارات للطيران، جامعة الملك فهد للبترول والمعادن، الجامعة الأميركية في الشارقة، الجامعةالأميركية في بيروت وغيرها.
