Experts such as Dr. Usama Fayyad, Oasis500 Chairman and former EVP of Yahoo! Inc., will be leading several of our sessions at the bootcamp, where he will be guiding you and giving you the essence of his journey in the fields of investments, entrepreneurship, ICT and starting a business.

Dr. Fayyad will be giving sessions in IT marketing, setting up your pitch deck to investors and also his perceptive on dealing with failures, and most importantly taking your startup from an early stage company to a growth stage company.

Dr. Usama Fayyad, Chairman, Oasis500
Usama Fayyad, Ph.D. is Chairman of Oasis-500 pursuant to an appointment by King Abdullah II of Jordan in 2010 to help create a tech startup ecosystem in MENA.  Oasis-500 manages a tech startup investment fund and operates an accelerator/incubator, entrepreneurship training, and angel investor network. It aims to fund/accelerate 500 Internet/Tech startups. He is Chairman of d1g.com in Jordan and Chairman & CTO of Blue Kangaroo – a personalised mobile search engine for offers based in Burlingame, CA, USA. Until 2008 he was Yahoo!’s chief data officer & Executive VP where he applied Big Data techniques to content/advertising targeting and built the world’s largest group of data scientist – helping Yahoo! grow its revenues from targeting by 20x in 4 years. Yahoo! acquired his second startup (DMX Group) in 2004 after he founded his first startup, Audience Science, in 2000 (the U.S. leader on behavioral ad targeting). Usama held leadership positions at Microsoft (95-00) and at NASA – JPL (89-95) where he pioneered BigData in Science and earned top research awards including a U.S. Government Medal in 94. He has published over 100 technical articles, holds over 30 patents, is a Fellow of both the AAAI and the ACM.

Hala Fadel, Chair of the MIT Enterprise Forum for the Pan Arab Region 
Mrs. Hala Fadel is Chair of the MIT Enterprise Forum for the Pan Arab Region (Lebanon). which organizes the first MIT Arab Business Plan Competition which is a Pan Arab competition. Hala is also the founder of the Maurice Fadel Prize competition which is open to projects being implemented in North Lebanon. Through her active participation in these competitions, Hala is always on the outlook for good projects and entrepreneurs to try to help and promote yhem. Hala is a Fund Manager at Comgest group which was created in 1986 as a portfolio management company and is based in Paris, Hong Kong, and Dublin. The Group has $9.5B under management, all run for institutions under the form of segregated accounts or public mutual funds. She was CFO and founder of Cambridge-based telecom software company Booleo. She started her career in 1997 as an analyst in the M&A division of Merrill Lynch in London. She graduated from HEC, France with a masters in financial economics, and from the MIT Sloan School of Management with an MBA.

 

Dr. Naser Saidi, Deputy Chairman eureeca.com

Dr. Nasser Saidi is a Lebanese politician and economist who served as the Minister of economy and industry and the Vice-governor for the Lebanese central banks for several terms in the last decade of the 20th century.
He is currently the Founder and President of Nasser Saidi & Associates.He is also the Deputy Chairman of eureeca.com. Prior to this role, he acted as the chief economist of the Dubai International Financial Centre and was also the executive director of the Hawkamah Institute for Corporate Governance based in the Dubai International Financial Centre in Dubai. In these capacities he conceived and developed the role of the Chief Economist of the DIFC providing strategy & advice to the DIFC and Dubai Government; acted as spokesperson & developed a series of broadly disseminated publications, and promoted the DIFC internationally. He established and developed the external relations of the DIFC with international financial institutions (IMF, OECD, IFC, World Bank, MIGA) and international financial centres. Dr. Saidi designed and set-up DIFCSTAT, a secure, interactive, on-line, web-based, registration, reporting and statistical system for DIFC entities. As founder and Executive Director of Hawkamah Institute for Corporate Governance, he developed the regional institute to bridge the corporate governance gap through advisory services, research and advocacy.

Walid Mansour, Managing Director MEVP
Walid has more than 10 years of experience in strategy & management consultancy, restructuring, corporate finance and engineering in telecom, media, utilities, pharmaceuticals and public sector industries. Prior to joining MEVP, Walid was a lead associate at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants within their Middle East team, supporting the firm’s implementation and growth in the region. Before Roland Berger, Walid worked as a strategy manager at the UAE’s Prime Ministry executive office focusing on long term public sector strategies and implementation plans. During his stay in Dubai, he worked on setting-up entrepreneurship related programs and developing incubation in the Arab World through several Dubai based initiatives such as the Mohammed Bin Rashid Foundation. Prior to that, Walid spent 3 years at Booz & Company as a consultant covering telecom & media and public sector industries across the region. He started his career as an Engineer working for the leading French Industrial Group Alstom in Europe. In 2009, he completed Morgan Stanley’s summer associate program within their investment banking M&A division in London. Walid holds an industrial and urban planning engineering degree from Grande Ecole Institut National des Science Appliquées de Lyon (INSA de Lyon) and an MBA in finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
